Administrative Assistant

Position Description:
Reporting to the Program Director, the Administrative Assistant will be responsible for email correspondence, database maintenance, membership and event administration, telephone reception, and basic monthly reporting. Additional responsibilities may be undertaken as required. This is a part-time contract position, which involves working remotely and requires a commitment of 24 hours per week. (9:00 am - 3:00 pm PST, Mon. - Thur.) Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Communication:
- Responding to email correspondence via ISOM and CSOM general mailboxes.
- Use of computer fax service for promotional communications.
- Telephone reception (9:00 am - 3:00 pm PST, Mon.-Thur.)

2. Data Management:
- Maintenance of ISOM and CSOM membership accounts.
- Maintenance of event registration records.
- Maintenance and expansion of email and fax communication lists.

3. Financial Administration:
- Receiving and processing of credit card orders.
- Weekly PayPal and merchant account transaction reconciliation.
- Preparation of basic month-end financial reports.

4. Event Administration:
- Support with preparation for conferences, seminars and webinars, including:
- Planning, registration management and coordination of materials.

5. Online Support:
- Basic use of Wordpress for updating webpage(s) content.
- Auditing and maintenance of website user accounts and profiles.
- Uploading contacts to segmented lists on ConstantContact.
- Use of Trello project management software.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years Administrative experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including a strong understanding of Excel.
- Basic comprehension of online content management systems (E.g., WordPress)
- Personal possession of a laptop or desktop computer with up-to-date software.

Skills:
- Strong professional communication, including telephone and email.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in communication.
- Strong organizational and administrative capabilities.
- Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.

The International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing orthomolecular medicine through education, communication, and advocacy. ISOM publishes the bi-monthly Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, hosts the Annual International Orthomolecular Medicine Today Conference, and develops continuing medical education programs and other resources for health care professionals.

Applicants with a background in nutrition, health sciences or health advocacy, and those residing in the Greater Vancouver Area will be given preferential consideration.

Nutrition is intimately linked with body metabolism. The goal of this course is to give you an understanding of what the body does with the food we eat. We begin with a detailed study of enzymes including the importance of vitamins and minerals. We then examine metabolic reactions used to obtain energy from carbohydrates, protein and fat as well as reactions used to rid our body of wastes such as urea and uric acid. The key role of the liver in metabolism will be emphasized throughout the course. Other topics will include digestive hormones, production of lactic acid, lipid carriers and the effects of low carbohydrate diets, including the effect on insulin/glucagon ratio, gluconeogenesis, ketosis and more.
